Skin Tag Removal in Hyderabad – Simple, Safe When Done Right

Dr. Divya Siddavaram, MBBS, DDVL

Skin tags are those small, soft, flesh-coloured growths that appear on the neck, underarms, eyelids or groin. They are completely harmless but often irritating or embarrassing.

As a dermatologist, I remove them routinely for patients who want smooth, clear skin. The key is using the right technique to avoid infection, bleeding or scarring.

What Causes Skin Tags?

Skin tags (acrochordons) form where skin rubs against skin or clothing. Common triggers:

  • Friction areas: Neck, armpits, bra lines, groin.
  • Weight gain or pregnancy: Increased skin folds.
  • Genetics: Family tendency.
  • Insulin resistance / diabetes: Higher prevalence in metabolic conditions.

They are not contagious or cancerous, but can catch on jewellery or clothing.

How I Remove Skin Tags

I have several safe options, chosen based on size, location and number:

1. Radiofrequency Ablation (RF Cautery) – My Preferred Method

  • A fine probe delivers controlled heat to vaporise the tag.
  • Minimal bleeding, precise, leaves a tiny mark that heals fast.
  • Ideal for eyelids, face and sensitive areas.

2. Cryotherapy (Freezing)

  • Liquid nitrogen freezes and destroys the tag.
  • Good for small, isolated tags.
  • May need 1–2 sessions.

3. Surgical Snip / Excision

  • Tiny scissors or blade under local anaesthetic.
  • Best for larger tags or those on a stalk.
  • Stitches rarely needed.

Session time: 10–30 minutes depending on number. Local anaesthetic makes it painless.

What to Expect After Removal

  • Immediate: Small red spot or scab.
  • Healing: 5–10 days for most areas; eyelids heal faster.
  • Scarring: Minimal with RF or cryotherapy; almost invisible.
  • Downtime: None—return to work immediately.

Aftercare: Keep clean, avoid picking scabs, use antibiotic cream if prescribed.

Myth-Busting: Skin Tag Removal

Myth 1: "I can tie them off or cut them at home."

Reality: Home removal risks infection, bleeding and scarring. What looks simple can lead to complications, especially on eyelids or neck.

Myth 2: "Skin tags mean I have cancer or a serious disease."

Reality: They are benign growths. Multiple tags may signal insulin resistance, but they are not precancerous.

Myth 3: "Large chain clinics charge less, so they must be better."

Reality: Technique and expertise matter most. A precise dermatologist removes cleanly in one visit; rushed treatments may need repeats.
