Chemical Peel Treatment in Hyderabad – What I Really Use Peels For

Dr. Divya Siddavaram, MBBS, DDVL

I am often asked, "Doctor, will a chemical peel make my skin thin?" or "Will one peel make me two shades fairer?" As a dermatologist practising in Hyderabad for over 10 years, I use chemical peels routinely—but not for colour-changing miracles.

Done correctly, peels are a controlled medical exfoliation that can help acne, marks, tanning, mild pigmentation and dullness, especially on Indian skin.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a procedure where I apply a measured concentration of acids to the skin for a controlled time, then neutralise or wash it off. This:

  • Removes dead cells from the top layers.
  • Stimulates renewal in deeper layers.
  • Improves texture, tone and in some cases, acne and pigmentation.

For Indian skin, I usually prefer superficial or medium-depth peels. Deep peels are rarely needed and carry a higher risk of pigmentation.

Skin Concerns I Treat with Peels

I use different peels for different problems:

  • Acne & blackheads: Salicylic, mandelic, or combination peels to unclog pores and reduce inflammation.
  • Post-acne marks & mild pigmentation: Glycolic, lactic, mandelic, or mixed peels to brighten and even tone.
  • Tanning & dullness: Gentle brightening peels to freshen the complexion.
  • Fine lines & early ageing: Certain peels can stimulate collagen over time as part of an anti-ageing plan.

For melasma or deep pigmentation, I combine very gentle peels with medical creams and strict sun protection.

What Happens During a Peel Session?

At a typical session with me:

  • I cleanse your skin and take baseline photos.
  • I apply the chosen peel with a brush or gauze.
  • You may feel mild burning or tingling for a few minutes.
  • I neutralise / wash it off at the right time.
  • I apply soothing cream and sunscreen, then explain after-care.

Most patients can go back to work the same day with only mild redness. Some peels cause visible flaking over 2–5 days—that is normal and expected.

Myth-Busting: Chemical Peels

Myth 1: "Chemical peels thin the skin permanently."

Reality: Medicinal peels, done at correct strengths and intervals, actually improve skin quality by stimulating new collagen and organised exfoliation. Over-doing it or self-peeling at home is what leads to trouble.

Myth 2: "One peel can permanently change my complexion."

Reality: Peels can reduce tan and pigmentation and make skin brighter, but they do not change your genetic skin colour. Expect healthier, more even skin—not a new identity.

Myth 3: "Salon peels and medical peels are the same."

Reality: Medical peels are chosen and supervised by a dermatologist who understands your diagnosis, acid type, concentration and timing. Random peels, especially high-strength ones at non-medical setups, can burn or darken Indian skin.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

It depends on your concern:

  • Acne and marks: Usually 4–6 sessions, 2–4 weeks apart.
  • Tan and dullness: 3–5 sessions, often combined with good home care.
  • Melasma and deeper pigmentation: A longer, slower plan with milder peels plus creams and strict sun protection.

I always reassess your skin each visit and adjust the type and strength of peel instead of using a fixed recipe.

My Approach as Dr. Divya

Between my work at CARE Hospitals, Hitech City, and Tatva Skin Clinic, Moosapet, I see a wide range of skin types and issues from across Hyderabad. For chemical peels, my priorities are:

  • Safety first for Indian skin tones prone to pigmentation.
  • Matching the right peel to the right indication.
  • Combining peels with a simple, sustainable skincare routine so results last.

If you are considering a chemical peel in Hyderabad, start with a consultation rather than a package. Once I see your skin and lifestyle, we can decide together whether peels are the right tool for you.
