PRP & GFC Therapy in Hyderabad – When I Recommend Your Own Blood as Medicine

Dr. Divya Siddavaram, MBBS, DDVL

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) and its advanced form GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate) are natural treatments I use frequently for hair loss and skin rejuvenation. They use your own blood, making them safe and well-tolerated, especially for Indian patients.

As a dermatologist who has performed hundreds of these procedures, I'll explain exactly what they can do, when I use them, and when I don't.

What Are PRP and GFC?

PRP Therapy:

  • Blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to concentrate platelets.
  • Platelets release growth factors that stimulate repair and regeneration.
  • Injected into thinning scalp or skin areas needing rejuvenation.

GFC Therapy:

  • A refined version of PRP where pure growth factors are extracted and concentrated, without red blood cells or plasma.
  • Higher potency, less inflammation, potentially faster results.

Both are minimally invasive and leverage your body's natural healing ability.

When I Use PRP / GFC for Hair Loss

I recommend PRP / GFC for:

  • Early to moderate androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss) in men and women.
  • Telogen effluvium (stress-related shedding) to reduce fall and improve thickness.
  • Hair thinning due to nutritional or hormonal factors, as part of a broader plan.

How it works for hair: Growth factors improve blood flow to follicles, prolong the growth phase and reduce inflammation around the scalp.

Sessions: Usually 4–6, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, then maintenance every 6–12 months.

When I Use PRP / GFC for Skin

For skin, I use it to:

  • Enhance microneedling for acne scars, pigmentation and texture.
  • Support fractional CO₂ laser healing and results.
  • Rejuvenate under-eyes, hands or neck for fine lines and dullness.

The platelets accelerate healing, reduce downtime and boost collagen production.

PRP vs GFC – How I Decide Which to Use

I choose GFC for faster results or sensitive cases, PRP for maintenance plans.

Myth-Busting: PRP & GFC Therapy

Myth 1: "PRP / GFC can regrow hair on completely bald areas."

Reality: They work best on early thinning where follicles are still alive but weak. For advanced baldness, medical therapy or transplant may be needed first.

Myth 2: "One session is enough for dramatic results."

Reality: Like gym training, results build over multiple sessions with consistent intervals. Single sessions give temporary boosts at best.

Myth 3: "PRP and GFC are exactly the same."

Reality: GFC is an advanced evolution—more concentrated growth factors with less volume injected, leading to better tolerability and potentially faster effects.

What to Expect During Treatment with Me

  • Blood draw (small amount, like a routine test).
  • Processing in a centrifuge or GFC kit (10–15 minutes).
  • Numbing the scalp or skin area.
  • Injections using fine needles—mild discomfort, over in 20–30 minutes.
  • Post-care: Gentle shampooing after 24 hours, avoid sun/heat for 48 hours.

Mild redness or soreness for 1–2 days. No major downtime.

My Approach Across Hyderabad Practices

I practise at CARE Hospitals, Hitec City, and Tatva Skin Clinic, Moosapet, seeing patients from Hitec City, Kukatpally, KPHB and beyond. For PRP / GFC:

  • Always after diagnosis (not as a first-line guess).
  • Combined with medical therapy (minoxidil, etc.) for hair, or peels/microneedling for skin.
  • Realistic expectations: improvement, not miracles.

If you are experiencing hair thinning or need skin rejuvenation support, PRP / GFC may be a good fit. A consultation helps confirm if your follicles or skin will respond well.
