Microneedling in Hyderabad – Why I Use It So Often for Scars and Ageing

Dr. Divya Siddavaram, MBBS, DDVL

Microneedling (also called collagen induction therapy or Dermapen treatment) is one of my favourite procedures for Indian skin. It is versatile, relatively gentle, and works beautifully for acne scars, open pores and early signs of ageing when planned correctly.

Patients are often surprised that a simple-looking procedure can give such meaningful improvement over time.

What Is Microneedling and How Does It Work?

Microneedling uses a device with fine, sterile needles that create thousands of tiny micro-channels in the skin.

This controlled micro-injury:

  • Triggers the skin's natural healing response.
  • Stimulates collagen and elastin production.
  • Improves texture, mild scars, pores and fine lines.

In my practice, I use automated microneedling pens; in selected cases, I combine them with PRP / GFC or specific serums for enhanced results.

Skin Concerns I Treat with Microneedling

I choose microneedling when I'm targeting:

  • Acne scars: Particularly rolling and some boxcar scars.
  • Enlarged pores and mild texture irregularities.
  • Fine lines and early laxity on the face or neck.
  • Stretch marks in some areas.

For very deep or tethered scars, I often combine microneedling with subcision, fractional CO₂ laser or PRP as part of a staged plan.

What to Expect During a Session with Me

A typical microneedling session at my clinic:

  • I cleanse your skin and apply a numbing cream for 30–45 minutes.
  • After wiping it off, I pass the microneedling device over the treatment area at controlled depth and speed.
  • There may be mild pinpoint bleeding—that is expected.
  • I apply soothing and healing products, sometimes PRP if part of the plan.
  • Your face may look pink or mildly red, like a sunburn, for 24–48 hours.

Downtime is usually low. Most patients can resume normal activities the next day with sunscreen and simple skincare.

Myth-Busting: Microneedling

Myth 1: "Microneedling will damage my skin barrier permanently."

Reality: When done correctly, microneedling creates temporary controlled channels that close within hours. It strengthens the skin over time by increasing organised collagen.

Myth 2: "Home rollers are as effective as medical microneedling."

Reality: At-home derma rollers carry risks of infection, scarring and uneven injury. Medical microneedling uses sterile, single-use cartridges and adjustable depth under dermatologist supervision.

Myth 3: "One session is enough for acne scars."

Reality: Collagen remodelling is gradual. For most acne scar and anti-ageing indications, I plan 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart.

Microneedling vs Fractional CO₂ Laser – Which Do I Choose?

  • For milder scars, early ageing and lower downtime, microneedling is often my first choice.
  • For moderate to severe scars or deeper wrinkles, I may combine microneedling with subcision, PRP or fractional CO₂ laser in different sessions.

The decision is personalised; there is no one best procedure for everyone.

My Approach Across Clinics

I currently practise at CARE Hospitals, Hitec City, and Tatva Skin Clinic, Moosapet, giving me exposure to both hospital-based and clinic-based cases. Wherever I am, my microneedling protocol focuses on:

  • Careful patient selection (no active infections, uncontrolled acne or keloid tendency).
  • Judicious combination with other modalities (PRP, peels, lasers) when helpful.
  • Detailed after-care so you heal well and protect your investment.

If you are considering microneedling in Hyderabad for scars or anti-ageing, a consultation is the best way to understand whether it is the right tool for your skin, or if we should combine it with something else.
